Cartlon “Tanked” The Last 3 Games – Libba

Extraordinary claims from former Carlton assistant coach Tony Liberatore that Carlton Football Club “tanked” their last 3 games of the 2007 AFL Season. Little Libba claims that the Blues Carlton Football CLubpicked players that did not deserve to get a game in the senior side and forced players to have operations then and there rather than wait until the end of the Season. On the back of the Paul Roos match fixing dramas in the last few weeks these claims will rock AFL circles. A lot has been made of the “tanking” issue over the last 12 months and the AFL keep wiping their hands with it and tell the footballling public that it just doesn’t occur. Well everyone knows that it does and now maybe the AFL may consider doing something about the rules to make sure it doesn’t continue to happen. It is the first time that an “insider” has come out and said anything like this, and I am sure Libba will get his fair share of flack about it but I have no doubt that this sort of thing goes on at the end of the year and if the AFL can’t see that then they are kidding themselves!!!

Secure Top Draft Picks For The Following Year

What incentive to lower ranked sides have to win? They are doing a disservice to their members if they didn’t have the clubs best interest at heart and for the lower ranked sides on the ladder that means trying to secure top draft picks for the following year. They are the rules as they stand at the moment and I bet you they need to change, and the sooner the better, because this sort of thing is ruining the integrity of the game.

Thornton Could Have Played

In one of his comments, Libba said that star defender Brett Thornton was told to have an operation on his ankle before the season had finished when he thought that he didn’t need one and could have quite easily played the rest of the year and that Thornton was flabbergasted at being told. And that a match commitee member said that any player with ANY niggling injury would be left out. Libba also highlighted the fact that in the Melbourne game Travis Johnstone was running rampant as a loose man in defence and that the Blues coaching staff refused to man him up.

Yes Libba will have his knockers about this one, but there is no doubt in my mind that there is at least some truth to this. Watch this space with interest because if the AFL are serious about protecting the integrity of the game, as they have said they are after the Paul Roos saga then the Blues may just find themselves in a bit of hot water.

Good on Libba for being honest!
Blues when will they learn? Stripped off draft picks before for cheating and again they are cheating to get Judd and the no 1 pick.

I bet you that the AFL wont do a thing though, they are soft soft soft!
