Demon Fans Need To Ask The AFL To Bring in The Mercy Rule
With the Demons losing by a total of 199 points points after Round 2 of AFL Football, they face the daunting task (even if they were playing well) of traveling down to Skilled Stadium to take on reigning premiers and raging premiership favourites the Geelong Football Club. Geelong are set unveil their 2007 Premiership Flag in front of the Geelong faithful and Mark Thompson has said that the Demons will face the full force of the Cats and that there is no room for complacency. Besides no one in the Geelong side will want to do anything to jeopardisetheir position in the team.
There was a lot of anger from disgruntled Melbourne fans after the game with a lot of that anger being leveled at new coach Dean Bailey. This is totally unwarranted, questions like “Do you think he has what it takes to be a Senior coach” and “His game plan is just not right”. If I were you Demon fans I would be centering my attention on your Senior Players and in particular the leadership group who simply do not stand up when the team needs them to. It is being left up to youngsters like Nathan Jones, who has been the Demons best player by far in the first 2 games.
Why isn’t he in at least in the Leadership Group. Surely this bloke is the future of the Melbourne Football Club and not Brad Miller for example. The Demons made a huge mistake at the start of the year I think in the appointments of this group and that is part of the reason they are producing the sort of football they are playing. I heard Jason Akermanis comment on the lack of talk and communication out on the ground from the Demons, now from the time you begin to play football you are taught that when you are having a bad day then at least you can be providing some sort of talk. The Demon leaders SHOULD be the ones leading the charge.
The only hope this week is if the AFL bring in the Mercy Rule.

You hit the nail on the head, the problem is the fat over paid ‘leaders’ of the club.
Neitz is just not a leader and I think playing someone at full forward and being the captain is a bad move as your always away from the game. I would say the same about West Coast and Essendon.
Neitz has always been a true centre half back who has been transplanted into the forward line because of the lack of a real big key forward in the Demon lineup.
Not sure captains have that much effect when the game starts anyway.
