That’s A Wrap – Rivalry Round Part 1

AFL Football ROund 3 - Lance FranklinWell what a game this was! The Hawks knocked of the North Melbourne side by 16 points in a brilliant come rom behind victory which would now certainly put them at the front of everyones lips when talking about the 2008 Premiership. The Hawks kicked 6 goals to 1 in the final term to run out victors.

Brent Harvey found some form and was outstanding for the Roos and he was very well supported by Daniel Harris and the much maligned Daniel Wells found a bit of touch and was also very good. But is was the two big guns down in the forward line for the Hawks that caused the damage. Lance “Buddy” Franklin and his partner in crime Jarryd Roughead kicked nine goals between them. Maybe the St Kilda bigmen can take a leaf out of their book and watch them to see how they work together and not get in each others way.

What is really scary for the rest of the teams tin the AFL is the depth that the Hawks have got through the midfield. Brad Sewell was simply outstanding. He ended the game with 34 touches and was clearly the Hawks best. With Hodge and Mitchell not having their usual impact Jordan Lewis, Chance Bateman and Travis Tuck and Xavier Ellis were fantastic in filling in the void. Although the Kangaroos lost this game they shouldn’t be that disappointed, they were very very good for just over 3 quarters against a quality quality team and you could argue should have won the game. The Kangaroos absolutely smashed the Hawks in the stoppages, especially in the first quarter before the Hawks tightened up. Jordan Lewis may find himself on the sidelines again after another “Brain Fade”. Someone needs to have a good chat to this guy, his jab to the stomach was simply STUPID, especially given the fact this was his first game after a suspension.

Matthew Kruezer Makes an Impressive Devut

The Bombers vs Carlton game was thoroughly entertaining! The Bombers continued their fast, attacking style of footy that may bring them unstuck a few times this year but it had a huge impact as to the outcome of the game. The Blues would have come to the MCG pretty AFL Football Round 3 - Dustin Fletcherconfident o winning the game and with the start they had it looked like they were ready to play. Nick Stevens started like a house on fire and he along with Marc Murphy are becoming dangerous mid fielders now that Judd had the main tag. Judd himself was pretty good for the Blues as well. He is working up to full fitness quite nicely. Things were looking good for the blues during the third quarter with Fev on fire kicking 5 for the quarter Carlton fans would have been happy with the debut of Number 1 draft pick Matthew Kruezer. He ended the game with 17 touches and looked like he will develop into a handy ruckman. Big guys tend to develop a bit later than others but Kruezer looks like he ready to play at this level right now.

Andrew Lovett returned to the Bomber line up and had an immediate impact his pace and foot skills were a highlight. So was the performance of Mark McVeigh. He is developing into an outstanding mid fielder. He is a midfielder that kick goals and they are so importnat especially when the big fella Scott Lucas is missing. He also took on Judd in the later part of the 3rd and final quarters after a couple of other had tried and I reckon won the battle.
