Pre Season Updates – 6th February

It’s that time of the week again, time for another Pre Season Update from around the clubs. As usual there has been a lot happening around the clubs that many of you may not have caught up with.
- Ivan Maric, Jonathon Griffin, Kurt Tippett and Brad Moran, all 200cm young ruckmen, will now have an enormous job in 2008. Now that Rhett Biglands will be out of action for the 2008 Season. Biglands has vowed to have an influence on the club and in particular these young ruckmen

- Jason Laycock looks ready to make a huge impact for the Bombers in 2008. He has built up strength over the pre-season and increased his bench press by 20kg while maintaining his biggest asset, his leap. Good news for the Bombers
- Fremantle have returned home to Perth and Mark Harvey has indicated that the trip was a huge wake up call for his young group “I’d say it’s bonded the group closer than ever,” and “From a morale point of view, to take the younger squad, I’d say we’ll see a direct benefit because of it.” Supporters are hoping for a more consistent outfit in 2008
- The Hawks unveil a new “Clash Guernsey” check it out on the Hawks Website.
- James Brayshaw is ticking the right boxes at Ardent Street announcing Vodafone to join Mazda as a joint-major sponsor for the 2008 season, with the option to renew for 2009.
- Still at Arden Street and Nathan Thompson looks set to return from his knee injury for the NAB Cup opener for the Kangas.
- Grant Thomas indicated that Brad Green goes missing when it counts and that is why he was left out of the Melbourne leadership group. It will be interesting to see how Green handles his axing in 2008.
- Marlon Motlop setting a cracking pace at the Power with his electrifying pace, could be a surprise packet for the Power in 08
- Fraser Gehrig said that the Saints are raring to go and “It looks like we’ll have our best side available, so it’s a big, intimidating, powerful side.” big things are expected from the Saints this year with some experts tipping them to finish top 4.
- Dean Cox is on the verge of signing a new contract, which would almost certainly see him as an Eagle for life.
