AFL Football Round 2 Review – Demons Stink!, Eagles Teribble, Geelong Awesome!

Melbourne Football Club Shocking!!

Well Round 2 of AFL Football is done and dusted and the Demons still Stink! The Melbourne Football Club are in all sorts of trouble on the field and their leadership group are not helping their cause. This is the group of players that the team needs to rely on when in these positions and the AFL Football Round 2 - Western BulldogsDemons leaders are just not up to it. They need ot have a good hard look at themselves if the Demons are any chance of winning a game this year. The one positive, they played 30 minutes of competitive football, but that was about it. If anyone saw the Demon fan giving them a serve as they left the ground on Saturday then you would know what the supporters are thinking. Nathan Jones was there only winner for the day and he backed up last week and is showing that at least they have one player prepared to have a dip.

To the delight of the Bulldogs fans I think the Demons played a few of the Bulldog players into form. Daniel Cross, who had an indifferent start last week racked up the touches, and Robert Murphy found some quality ball and his skills, along with Lindsay Gilbee were outstanding. Youngster Josh Hill took a huge step in the right direction for the Doggies ending the game with 3 goals as did Jason Akermanis who overcame a buttock complaint in the first half. Things only get worse for the Dees as they tackle the Geelong Football Club next week at Skilled Stadium. If only they could invoke the Mercy Rule.

Adelaide Crows in a Canter

Well if the Demons stunk, the West Coast Eagles were not far behind this week going down to a rampant Adelaide Crows outfit at AAMI Stadium. Neil Craig’s new game plan was certainly on show with his team kicking 21 goals for the game. 7 of which came from the boot of skipper Simon Goodwin. Although he started his career as a Half Back Flanker and then running through the mid field Goodwin looks a genuine lead up forward with strong hands and a deadly straight kick, he was on fire! I thought the Crows would struggle in the Ruck and they did with Dean Cox dominating the ruck, but Craig’s had a fantastic plan to run McGregor and Stevens with him around the ground which managed to stop his influence around the ground. Kerr and Priddis were good for the Eagles and so was draftee Brad Ebert who hails from Adelaide and was playing his first AFL game in his home town.

The way the Crows ran from the back line was brilliant and seeing Johncock and Mcleod run past at pace and receive the footy and then deliver with pin point accuracy was a highlight. Porplyzia continues on his merry way through the middle of the ground and is showing why he is rated so highly at the Crows. Next week the Eagles tackle the Dockers in the Derby while the Crows tackle cross town rivals Port Adelaide and that should be a belter!.

Geelong Stamp Their Authority

One word to describe the Cats this week AWESOME. That is all that needs to be said. The Bombers were given a MASSIVE reality check and now know what it takes to be the best. How is this for a stat Geelong had 462 possessions for the match – the most ever recorded by an AFL team. AFL FOotball ROund 2 - Geelong Football ClubThe Cats punished the Bombers for their poor skill level and hurt them in transition, Ablett, Bartell, Ling, Kelly and the entire Cat mid field ran riot. Bartell had 38 touches, Ablett had 34 touches, Joel Corey 30 touches and the list goes on and on. Bomber skipper Matthew Lloyd had a shocker and even the Bomber fans were letting know about it by giving him some cheers when he got some touches in the second half. Patrick Ryder won his position against Cam Mooney for the Bombers and was probably the best. Well the Cats would be very very pleased with their performance as they built themselves up for this one and to win by 99 points was a brilliant result. They could probably play their VFL side next week against the Demons and Skilled Stadium and still win. For the Bomber they tackle Carlton at the MCG and these games are always a good encounter wherever both teams are on the ladder.

Only two close games and the rest were floggings…

Disapointing for many footy and team fans.

Yeah, we are back to Aussie football. I love it. Reading you talk about it get me excited for our football to start. We are five months away. Except, we do have indoor football right now. I’ve never watched it before. The rules are different and I don’t think I quite understand them.
