AFL Football Round 3 – Essendon vs Carlton, Brisbane vs Sydney
No matter where these 2 teams are on the ladder this game is always a game to remember. The Bombers were taught a footballing lesson last week and now well and truly know where the top level is at. While The Blues started well against the Saints last week before being over run. Brendan Fevola has given in and sworn off the alcohol, let’s see what game he brings to the MCG on Saturday night. Because he is the key as to whether the Blues can kick enough goals to win the game. Chris Judd has had a quiet start to the season and is still gaining his match fitness, while Nick Stevens, who was labeled “Overweight” by Essendon great Tim Watson on SEN Radio the other morning is going OK in m opinion. The Blues mid fielders are relishing the fact the Judd is commanding the best tagger and the likes of Stevens, Murphy, Simpson are gaining plenty of the ball. They match up pretty well these 2 teams and it will be a good test for the Blues to see if they can get a grip on the fast paced Bomber game plan.
Well The Bombers were well and truly beaten last week and will have gained a valuable lesson on how to play at the best level. Matthew Lloyd had a shocker and will need to lift his game this week in the absence of Scott Lucas. Lloyd needs to be kicking at least 4 goals a game to cover the loss and it is a big ask. Adam McPhee is a player that has been disappointing for a while now and need to pull his finger out!
Courtenay Dempsey will be a big loss and the Bombers will lose a bit of run from defense, Nathan Lovett Murray looks likely to miss a swell with groin soreness. Andrew Lovett, Angus Monfries and Kyle Reimers look like the front runners to step up. The Bombers need to continue too play their fast attacking brand of footy if they are to win and to not have the cattle to be playing stop start footy which they were forced into a bit last week. You can bet that the Carlton boys will be trying to do this as much as possible. Matthew Kruezer the number 1 draft pick will make hi debut for the Blues and all eyes will be on him. He had been named a CHF but he is likely to spend a lot of time in the Ruck.
I think the Bombers will be a bit to quick for the Blue Baggers this week and will win by 22 points.

Brisbane take on The Sydney Swans
Well The Swans form is pretty good going into Round 3 losing to St Kilda in Round 1 by 2 point and last week smashing last years Grand Finalists by 68 points in an impressive attacking game. A good sign last week was the performance of Barry Hall who booted 5.4. Daniel Merrett you would think
will get the job and that will be a great contest. The Swans are known for their “Ugly” brand of football but showed last week that they are capable of playing attacking footy booting 22 goals. The Lions will not want a in close tight contest but I think the Swans will be trying to bottle their game up a bit this week. Craig Bolton may get the job on Jonathon Brown and that looms as a key match up. Brown was fairly quiet last week and will come out hard this week, watch out anyone in his path this week. The Lions may stretch the Swans small defense this week and Daniel Bradshaw could pop up again to kick a few and with a resting ruck man down there as well then the Swans will be starting to get a bit concerned.
Jarred Brennan has been a bit of a revelation in the mid field so far this year and is an unpredictable player and hard to match up on. But he know that he could be required to play anywhere and is a bit of a Mr Fix It for Leigh Matthews. Kevin Bartlett labeled Matthew Lewenberger as the next Dean Cox, “he is better the Cox was at this point in their careers” he is a good player and that is a big wrap. He will be up against Darren Jolly this week so that will be a good test for the youngster.
I like the Lions in this one, they were fantastic last week, so were the Swans, but I think the Big Brown dog is ready to take this game apart up there and the Lions can get the points. Lions by 19 points.

Blues I think are begining to realise that maybe they traded away their option for CHF and to provide help for Fev. Bombers should bounce back…
Good move to put Brenenan in the midfield as I do not think there is room for him in the forward line with Brown and a fit Bradshaw. Sydney have a real chance to entrench a top 8 spot but im thinking Sydney will win.
