AFL Round 3 - Adelaide v Port, Geelong v Melbourne, Richmond v Collingwood
This is one of the most lop sided games in AFL History, Geelong versus Melbourne at Skilled Stadium. The word from Demon Land is “competitive”, coach Dean Bailey wants them to be competitive. Well they haven’t been in the past two games and the motivation for the Demons as they drive down the Highway will be zero, although they will say they are in with a shot of winning the game.
Geelong will SMASH Melbourne and as I have said before their only hope is if the Mercy Rule can be applied. There is no part on the ground that Melbourne can win. Jmmy Bartel and Gary Ablett are in danger of breaking the world record for the number of possessions in a game and Steve Johnson is likely to kick a bag.
Good Luck Demons, you are going to need it. At the time of writing this the Cats are paying $1.02 for the win and the Demons $17 at SportsAcumen. Anyone willing to take a punt on the Demons?
The Showdown
These are great games to watch! Adelaide have the wood over Port in these games and considering that Port are yet to win a game this year the are going to need to win this one or else there are going to be some big questions asked out there at Alberton Oval. Former Port player Josh Francou has come out during the week and labeled his former team “SOFT” and that will no doubt put the fire in the belly of Mark Williams and a
few of his charges. Francou has a point though, who in the Port side gets in and under and gets the pill? The Burgoyne’s may do it at times if the ball bounces the right way but they are 2 that you can’t rely on, Kane Cornes has been playing a bit of outside footy this year so those comments may just be warranted.
On the other hand the Crows are one of the best in the business when it comes to getting the hard footy. The start of this game will be willing you can bet on that. With Goodwin on fire out of the forward 50 last week the Power will need to watch him. The Ruck is going to be a concern for the Crows, as it will be for most of the year. The Port Rucks would arguably be the best in the comp so the Crows need to find a way of negating their influence. The Crows midfeild are going great guns at the moment and they have a lot of options to rotate through there. Warren Tredrea has come out trying to play down the game saying that it is just another game but he is one player that will come out and try an exert his influence early.
Make sure you tune into the first 20 mins of this game it should be a cracker. Adelaide by 32 points.
The Pies take on The Tigers
The Pies had a huge number of rotations last week with about 110 I think it was and Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews gave up trying to work out
who was on who. Are The Tigers going to be able to handle this? Tiger Coach Terry Wallace has put the heat on the senior players this week and one player that needs to pull his finger out is Nathan Brown. This guy is a superstar of th Richmond side but he just can’t get a kick and I wonder if he and Terry were not good mates whether he would still be in the side?
The Pies have some big firepower down forward that I think will be too much to handle for the Tiger defense. Rocca, Cloke, Davis, Didak, Medhurst, Thomas all likely to play there it is going to be a tough day for the Tigers. Jay Schulz will probably need to take on of the Pies big men taking away an avenue to goal for the Tigers. Joel Bowden will need to man up on an opponent this week or else he will get carved up.
If the Tigers are going to have any chance then they need to stop the ball getting into the Collingwood forward line by winning the midfield battle. Kane Johnson comes back into the side and needs to lift his game along with Nathan Foley. These two are going to be so important in the middle of the ground so the Pies can’t have free reign in there. I wonder if anyone will go near Dane Swan this week or will he just float around at pick up his 30 touches again. It amazes me that teams don’t pay this guy any respect whatsoever.
The Pies should take this one out quite easily. Collingwood by 52 points.

Richmond have more of a chance than what you give them..
