Can Voss Cut The Mustard as Coach?

All eyes will be on the Brisbane Lions as they tackle the Saints and Michael Voss is sure to be under the spotlight. I heard a Brisbane fan on radio the other night saying that he think that Voss will not be able to “cut the mustard” as coach considering he was a former player and still has close relationships with the players that are still playing there.
I beg to differ, I think Michael Voss is well aware of what is needed to be a senior coach of an AFL Football side and I think has already tried to stamp his authority, considering his stance on the Rahn Hooper incident. Sole Captain Jonathon Brown has publicly stated just after Christmas that he thought that Voss was being hard on the players when he needed to be. That is good enough for me……
There is no doubt that every move, tactic and emotion will be scrutinized in his early stages of his coaching career and also if there is any correlation to the way Leigh Matthews went about it.

It’s hard to avoid the correlation with Tim Watson. There’s a world of difference between the media box and the coach’s box, as Tim discovered. Personally, it’s a watching brief on Voss, but I’m not expecting a happy ending.
Voss’ immense natural drive and competitiveness and a fair degree of natural athletic talent are not the equipment of a Premiership-winning coach if the past 40-odd years are anything to go by. See http://aussierulesblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/coaching-credentials.html
Well with one game down Voss has a good record.
It will be hard to read anything into the game though, yesterday was the very definition of a practice match.
At the very least, he seems to have the players on board!
[...] the #aflfooty discussion on twitter, it was discussed whether if Voss would do a good job with his first coaching game and while the Lions gave up a 40 odd lead, I would say he and the [...]
It looked like the Lions may have a harder edge, judging by their tackling and attack on the ball. The Saints looked fitter though?
