Ben Cousins, Ben Cousins, Ben Cousins
Not much to talk about at the moment bar Ben Cousins. As an Essendon supporter I would love to have Cousins at Bomber Land but apparently the Bomber leaders are not of the same view.
“He is off our radar, not because of his illness, we just wouldn’t recruit a 30-year-old,” Horsburgh said.
Dissapointing! It astounds me that more clubs are not going put their hats in the ring, although some maybe playing their cards closer to their chests than other’s. I would have thought he would be a great fit for the Bombers and other clubs for that matter. I have no doubt he would be in the best 2-3 if not the best midfielder in whichever team that ends up aquiring his services.
Other clubs may just show their cards after the AFL alow him to nominate for the draft.
I Can’t Stand TV Journalists Like This !
I was watching the Channel 7 Sports Report tonight and there was a stroy on Ben Cousins likely return to AFL Football and how the Eagles Cheif Executive Trevor Nisbett declared that Cousins was not welcome back at the West Coast Eagles, despite a former club chairman suggesting that if Cousins is to play again it should be in Perth where his friends and family are. Murray McHenry, the former chariman wrote a letter to the AFL outlining his thoughts.
Anyway the footage was of Cousins sitting at a Cafe or something like that reading the paper with a female minding his own business and this Channel 7 reporter started to try and get an interview and when Cousins noticed the cameras he up and left, with the reporter in hot pursuit. This is a disgrace ! I know this has been said before and it will probably be said again but why can’t they just let these people have some sort of normality? At the end of the day they are just football players, it is not like they are George Clooney or Barack Obamah now are they.
Cousins Set to Play at St Kilda?
Well it is Official Ben Cousins is Drug Free! and I am sure that everyone know’s that the Saints are the front runners to secure his services, and don’t you love it they just will not come out and say it straight up that if the AFL clear Ben Cousins to return to AFL Football they will pick him up in the draft. I am sure they have already decided to go down this path why not come out and say it!
Personally I think it would be the pick up the year, Cousins was and still will be an outstanding player and I think his motivation to return to AFL Football will be a MASSIVE advantage for the Saints. His ability to “gut run” is second to none and only Robert Harvey in my opinion had his measure.
This Will Upset the Irish !!
I was just reading that GUN Irish youngster will be coming down to Australia to train with St Kilda Football Club later this month as he considers a possible move to AFL Football. THis kid was named the Gaelic Athletic Association’s young footballer of the year last month and there is no doubt that this will strin the relationship between the AFL and the Irish.
Who is behind all this? Ricky Nixon of course, as part of his Irish Talent Spotting program that has caused a bit of angst in Ireland. Walsh played in the All-Ireland Final last year with Kerry and is being described as a Wayne Carey type (on the field I hope). It will be interesting to see the reaction from the Irish on this one.
Is Rhyce Shaw The Real Deal?
Is it just me or do other’s think that the hype surrounding Rhyce Shaw going to Sydney all smoke and mirrors? I mean is really that good that he will be in the Sydney Swans starting 22? Well Paul Roos seems to think so. Roos even picked him up from the airport and gave him a tour of Sydney, to which Shaw replied “It was grouse”.
I just can’t see him being able to use what he has got to give, running and carrying the ball is not really suited to the small confines of the SCG… Anyway that is just my thought’s.
The Juddernaught – Chris Judd Looks Great !
Did anyone see the vision of Carlton skipper and AFL Superstar Chris Judd punding the pavement around Princess Park yesterday? It was a great sight for Carlton Fans and the footy public in general. He has indicated that his body is “Fantastic” and 100%. Although I am not a Carlton fan I love watching Chris Judd play football and I can’t wait to see him in action again with his body feeling good, as long as it is not against Essendon that he racks up 40 touches and wins the game!
He beat home Andrew Walker in their time trial around the park and it was ineresting to see that the Wesern Bulldogs also completed the same track and where led in by Ryan Griffen and Shaun Higgins, mind you it was still quite a bit behing Judd.
Warren Tredrea Captain No More
As you may recall, Warren Tredrea is one of my favourite personalities in the AFL. It is good to see that he is putting the team before his own individual glory, and is standing down as the Captain of Port Adelaide.
“I need to focus on getting my body right, recovering and playing the best I can.”
This guy just oozes arrogance!
By the way he thinks that Dom, Shaun and Kane are the front runners.

O’Keefe To Stay a Swan Now?
Eventhough in this day and age of the AFL Trading system and the fact that players move from club to club quite often, it still amazes me that a player can, during the trading period, tell his current club that he no longer wants to play there and wants to return home (which is fair enough) and then when a deal is not done just walk back in an say that he wants to stay now?
I am of course talking about the recent developments of AFL Player Ryan O’keffe and the Sydney Swans, where O’keefe wanted to be traded to a Melbourne based club so he could return to his home town. If he really wanted to return home sureley a deal would have been done? Now he has just signed a new 4 YEAR DEAL. Go figure.
I guess I am a bit more of a traditionalist where I would want to play with one club etc etc. There MUST be some ill feeling somewhere in that club, whether it be from coach Paul Roos to Ryan O’keefe or vice versa, although no one will admit to it.
“From our point of view there was never any animosity and he was never unhappy with the club,” Roos said.
Even more so from the playing group, how could they now be 100% sure that O’Keefe will be giving it his all for the Red and White? I know Brett Kirk is an outstanding captain and leader of men and will do his best to bring everyone together to acheive their one ultimate goal, a premiership, but deep down there will no doubt be some ill feelings somewhere along the line.

AFL Football Round 10 Preview
Scott Lucas is back for the Bombers when they tackle the Adelaide Crows at AAMI Stadium on Friday Night but it will not be enough to get the Bombers back on the winners list. Although the Eagles smashed the Crows at Subiaco last week they will be hard to beat at AAMIT Stadium. Expect the Crows to come out hard and I think theor midfield will be far to strong for the young Essendon side. Adelaide has made no change while the Bombers have brought in Lucas and Houli at the expense of Watson and Daniher. Goodwin, McLeod, Johncock, Burton and Johncock will run rampant and will have to much class for the Bombers. Crows to win easily by 50 points.
Coming off their best game of the year the Pies will be looking to continue the momentum against the Eagles who themselves put in a good performance against the Crows at home last week. But it will be a different story this week when they have to travel to Melbourne. Collingwood have made no change while the Coatsters have brought in Daniel Kerr, who announced during the week that he will stay in W.A, and also Beau Waters. Masten and Davis have been omitted. If the Pies can continue that relentless pressure that they put on the Cats last week the Eagles will not get near them. Cloke and Rocca up forward will be far to strong for the Eagles defense and The Eagles just do not have the forwards to kick a winning score. Collingwood by 56 points.
